This weekend is set to bring sunny skies, cold temps across our region

Temperatures return to near average for the day with more sunshine

ROANOKE, Va. – Another cool and cloudy morning is unfolding, but Friday afternoon brings some big changes.

Next Few Days

Temperatures are slightly below average Friday afternoon with all zones staying in the 40s, though a few spots will remain in the 30s and some reach the 50s.

Today

The overall setup for the day brings our next cold front with the chance for rain and snow showers.

Today

Here is a look at 5 p.m. Isolated rain showers are brushing across the Roanoke Valley and parts of the NRV see rain transition to snow.

Cold air continues to funnel in behind the rain and will provide the opportunity for a light accumulation of snow in the NRV and parts of the Highlands by Saturday morning.

This Afternoon

Once the rain starts to push in, our winds start to increase. Gusts close to 20-30mph will be present across the Blue Ridge with lighter winds moving across the Piedmont.

Gusty This Afternoon

The Illuminights forecast for Friday night looks fair. It will be cold with a few gusts of wind, and a stray shower can’t be ruled out.

Tonight

This weekend brings mostly sunny skies with cold temperatures. Winds will continue, and will provide a cooler feel to the air Saturday morning. Wind chill values will be in the teens and twenties by sunrise.

This Weekend

Most of the country sees little impact from the weather this weekend as millions will be travelling for the holidays. Two areas of note are the northeast and Pacific northwest where two areas of rain/snow move in.
