Before you speed through your morning commute, Roanoke City is asking drivers to tap the brakes. The city is launching its 2026 traffic safety campaign, ‘Slow Your Roll,’ encouraging drivers to slow down, stay alert, and watch for people walking and biking - especially in school zones.

For the past six months, Williamson Road has seen the amount of travel lanes go down and a center turn lane added in an effort to reduce travel speeds and lower the number of crashes.

A vehicle fire on I-81 Southbound at mile marker 126 is causing delays in Montgomery County Tuesday, according to VDOT. Motorists can expect delays, and the left shoulder, left lane, center lane and right lane are closed. Traffic is being directed to the right shoulder.

On Saturday morning, April 11, Bridge Street will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. to around noon, due to the 17th Annual Bridge2Bridge race.

Virginia State Police will conduct a highway safety enforcement initiative, “Operation Road Watch,” along the Route 29 corridor on Saturday.

A portion of Riverland Road will be closed to through traffic to allow construction to begin on pedestrian improvements on a section of Riverland Road and the Star Trail parking lot.
