Keep the umbrella handy...

Hit-or-miss showers/storms will be the name of the game tonight with a higher coverage of rain expected on Saturday. We're not talking about a complete washout, but occasional showers are in the forecast. Periods of rain stay with us into Saturday night with scattered showers/storms in the cards for Sunday. We may see a few more breaks of sun on Sunday and therefore will not be as cool as Saturday, when many of us may not make it out of the 60s. Not great news for any outdoor activities you may have planned this weekend. BUT...one good thing (trying to look on the bright-side): the pollen levels will be down for the next couple days because of the rain headed our way.

A gloomy (and cooler) weekend ahead...

FRIDAY EVENING

Warmth and increasing humidity, along with rising air along the mountains, is leading to widely scattered late-day and evening storms. These will mostly be near and west of the Roanoke Valley. As a front collapses on the area from the northeast, we’ll see more showers develop and move east overnight. These will move southwest to northeast.

Evening temperatures begin in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Overnight lows drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

THE WEEKEND

Talk about a big temperature swing! Most of us Saturday will hover in the 60s. Passing showers will be present Saturday morning before turning more widespread late Saturday afternoon. These showers will then be off and on into Sunday morning, moving east by midday. Breaks of sun and temperatures in the 70s will result in instability (thunderstorm fuel). Expect scattered storms to move west to east Sunday afternoon and evening.

NEXT WEEK

If you didn’t know any better, you would think next week’s forecast came from mid-July. Each morning starts out muggy with temperatures in the 60s. Monday will reach the 70s, but the rest of the week will be in the 80s. The combination of warmth, humidity and disturbances up above will result in the daily chance for scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
