Afternoon showers, then we cool down

A cold front brings showers this afternoon with cold air funneling in for the rest of the week

ROANOKE, Va. – We are tracking another mild day that brings above-average temperatures on Wednesday afternoon. We trade in these conditions for cold and windy weather by the weekend.

Weather Headlines

Forecast high temperatures will be in the 60s Wednesday afternoon thanks to winds out of the south bringing in warm and humid air.

Today

The overall setup for the day is not too different from Tuesday. The big difference? A lot of the moisture we are seeing and feeling gets pushed out of the region.

Today

Rain showers moving in Wednesday afternoon will suck up all the moisture across the region and push it east as an area of low pressure moves offshore later in the day.

Increasing

By 3 p.m., we will start to see isolated to scattered showers tracking across the mid-Atlantic.

3:00pm This Afternoon

By 8 p.m., some of the heavier pockets of rain are pushing through the Lynchburg area and Southside. Eventually, the rain starts to clear shortly after.

8:00pm tonight

A break from cloudy skies and warm temperatures happens for Thursday thanks to an area of high pressure building in for a brief moment. Winds return Thursday afternoon, but then another front pushes through Friday and into Saturday. Rain chances won’t be as sporadic, but rather a sharp change in temperatures will occur as we head into the weekend.

Cold Air Returns

The East Coast will be colder than average this weekend. Cold air takes over from the mid-west to the northeast and all the way down into the south.
