ROANOKE, Va. – Tuesday brought fog, clouds, and a few sprinkles or patchy drizzle to our area.
What to expect from the low-pressure system
Our main weather player is a low-pressure system, moving from the southwest to the northeast. This system is set to increase our chances of rain starting this evening, lasting into Wednesday. It will also be the catalyst to increase our wind and decrease our temperatures.
Wednesday’s weather outlook
Wednesday morning begins with temperatures in the 50s but expect them to dip into the 40s by lunch-time and eventually into the 30s by dinner-time. A soaking rain will dominate most of the day through mid-afternoon, with the Highlands and New River Valley seeing a switch to mountain snow showers from midday on. A light accumulation is possible here in the Commonwealth in our higher elevations. In addition to the cold air moving in, the winds will on the increase as well...making for some very blustery conditions.
Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday
As we move past the midweek rain, Thursday and Friday will bring more sunshine. But don’t be fooled by the sun! Temperatures will only reach the upper 30s on Thursday and the low-to-mid 40s on Friday. And with wind still howling Thursday morning, wind chills (feel-like temperatures) will likely be in the single digits and 10s as you head out the door.
Plan your weekend activities
With the weekend on the horizon, it seems Saturday may be the nicer day for outdoor plans, courtesy of dry conditions combined with partly to mostly sunny skies.
Sunday will see the return of more clouds and scattered rain showers. But, at least we will warm up a bit late weekend into early next week. Stay tuned to Your Local Weather Authority for the latest updates.
