The Wildlife Center of Virginia announced Wednesday that they had released three Black Bear yearlings after a year of care at the wildlife center.

The woodrats only stayed for a little for a check-up and for the center to grab some skin samples for testing.

According to the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke, while most hummingbirds are leaving the state right now, stragglers will be migrating through October.

A Bald Eagle was hit by a car in Giles County Friday.

The series focuses on wildlife native to Virginia – especially the rescues that come into the Wildlife Center.

ROANOKE, Va. – The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke is holding its first-ever online auction. That’s when the Roanoke Valley SPCA stepped in to help by allowing the Wildlife Center to use the online auction platform that it uses for its own charity auctions. The money raised during this virtual event allows the center to continue to care for animals. “It helps us feed, medicate, buy the medication we always have equipment that needs repairs, but it’s basically putting food into the animals and the care that they get, said Executive Director of the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center Sabrina Garvin. The nonprofit relies on donations and although the pandemic has shut down businesses across Southwest Virginia, the center is busier than ever.

The first eagle is a juvenile bird spotted on the ground in Poquoson in June. On Friday, two bald eagles will be released at Mutton Hunk Fen Natural Area Preserve in Accomack County. One of the eagles was admitted in May after it was seen standing on a woodpile near a campground in Horntown and seemed unable to fly. The second eagle was found in June eating in a ditch near a poultry processing plant and was unable to fly.
