At about 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday, a Smyth County deputy monitoring southbound traffic on Interstate 81 clocked a vehicle going 103 mph. The chase went 24 miles down I-81, from mile marker 54, near Atkins, to mile marker 30, near Glade Spring. He is currently being held at the Abingdon Regional Jail without bond pending an arraignment in the Smyth County General District Court. Smyth County deputies were assisted by officers from the Chilhowie Police Department and the Virginia State Police.

Friday, Oct. 16 is the first day of The Fast and the Fiorini 17th annual charity ride. The ride was created in 2004 and was originally named The Big Walker Ride, but was renamed after Ian Fiorini who was instrumental in starting the first ride. Before the pandemic, HOPE was housing one to two people in motels but since the COVID-19 outbreak, they hit a peak of 44 people a night. So know when you register to ride that fee will help fund hope when people need it the most.

Authorities say a Wythe County deputy saw two men in a 2017 Toyota Prius going 97 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-81 on Wednesday. The deputy also ran the plates and discovered that the Prius was stolen out of Raleigh, North Carolina. A Smyth County deputy then reportedly spun the car out in the yard and the two men ran away from the car. Sinclair was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule 1 or 2, possession of a schedule 1 or 2 while in possession of a gun.
