Police said following an argument in the parking lot at the Valero at 1105 Brookdale Street between Ombae Johnson, Dasyne Hairston, and Deangelo Howard, Johnson shot Howard with a firearm. Howard was then taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said. Warrants for malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony have been issued against Johnson, 20, and Hairston, 19, police said. Officers arrived to find that both a home in the 400 block of First Street and a vehicle had been hit by gunfire. On Friday, the Martinsville Police Department arrested two men in connection with the shooting. Martin faces additional charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony vandalism, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police said that Donna Day Spencer was trying in the 300 block of Fayette Street when she tried to cross the road at about 6:25 p.m., but was hit by a 2014 Toyota Prius. She was taken to Sovah Health in Martinsville and then to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she died. The case remains under investigation by the Martinsville Police Department. The kitten who made the trip, now appropriately named Cherokee, likely will have a "stray hold" to give possible owners a chance to claim the kitten before Cherokee is placed for adoption. Police say the pedestrian-involved crash happened at 9:54 p.m. on Starling Avenue. The man was not at an intersection at the time of the crash. A Honda Fit was going north when it hit Gerald Carter, who was not in a crosswalk, according to police. Carter was transported to SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville and then to Carilion Hospital in Roanoke.
