The Maroons earned their first-ever national championship wrestler

The Hokies defeated No. 7 North Carolina State 21-10 Friday night in Cassell Coliseum.

The Maroons could capture their third consecutive ODAC title this weekend.

This year Roanoke College will face off with Ferrum College.

The 149-pound champion defeated Austin Gomez of Michigan.

The match took place center stage at Mill Mountain Theatre in Downtown Roanoke.

"The Match at The Mill Mountain Theatre" will feature Roanoke College and Washington & Lee facing off in a dual meet.

The annual wrestling event draws in over 300 college wrestlers to start the season.

Washington & Lee's Ryan Luth finishes 5th in his weight class.

The Maroons had 3 placements in its inaugural event.

A familiar face to the Roanoke Valley wrestling scene, Nate Yetzer has been hard at work on "The Build"-- the new wrestling program at Roanoke College that will debut this fall.

The eighth-ranked Hokies won eight matches over the Fighting Camels, including two bonus-point victories. MATCH HIGHLIGHTSMaking his dual debut, freshman Sam Hillegas won in convincing fashion, pinning his opponent Shannon Hanna in 4:17. The Pittsburgh product was a two-time Pennsylvania state champion before signing with the Hokies in November 2019. Sam Latona and Andy Smith won by decision in their dual debuts. Latona, a redshirt freshman, took a 5-3 decision while the freshman Smith won 12-7.
