Emotions ran high Thursday night during an explosive Roanoke County School Board meeting, just weeks after the suicide of a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly bullied.

Thursday night, the Roanoke County School Board held its first public meeting since 10-year-old Autumn Bushman took her own life. The district’s policy on bullying is now front and center.

The Roanoke County School Board is set to address bullying policies and processes on Thursday, a discussion that comes in the wake of the tragic death of a fourth grader at Mountain View Elementary.

A Celebration of Life for Autumn Bushman will be held at the Berglund Center in Roanoke on April 13.

Parents spoke about the issues that their children had faced in schools while sharing personal stories that have affected them and their children regarding bullying.

A funeral was held in honor of 10-year-old Autumn Bushman, but before that, a motorcycle ride was held in her memory to show support for the family.

Her visitation was held at the Lotz Funeral home in Roanoke, who offered their services free of charge.

A craft and vendor show will be held at the Valley View Mall Savvy Events Pop Up store that will help benefit the family of Autumn Bushman.
