An elderly couple was displaced after a fire at their home in Appomattox County Friday morning.

Crews came to the rescue of a boater in distress early Wednesday morning, according to the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.

The Concord Volunteer Fire Department and Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department were notified of a single-vehicle accident with a possible entrapment on Sunday at 12:54 a.m.

The family was inside the home at the time of the fire, but Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department said Aalaysia, a middle school student, woke up to the fire and took action.

A family will now need a new place to live after a fire destroyed their home in Appomattox County, according to the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.
