ROANOKE, Va. – Update:
A patient is in critical condition following a house fire in Southeast Roanoke on Thursday.

According to first responders, they were dispatched to a structure fire in the 800 block of Tazewell Road and it was upgraded to a working fire at 1:10 p.m., reporting visible smoke.
Southside units responded shortly after and reported a fire on the rear of the structure and crews went to work extinguishing the fire and searching the structure.
Fire operations progressed to a defensive attack with the second story fully engulfed, crews exited the structure and implemented their strategy in order to knock the fire down before re-entry. Crews then re-entered the structure to continue offensive attack and marked the fire under control at 1:35 p.m. The patient in critical condition has been transported to the hospital.

Roanoke Fire & EMS is currently working on a house fire that has occurred in Southeast Roanoke, and 10 News is on the scene. Authorities said that the fire was reported to crews around 1:06 p.m.
The fire occurred at a home near Tazewell Avenue and 8 1/2 Street in Roanoke on Thursday afternoon. Crews pulled at least one person from the home and began chest compressions.
