Crews were able to contain the fire to a single apartment and said they utilized extinguishers and sprinklers to help prevent it from spreading. However, the sprinklers caused water damage in the apartment and the floors below, including much of the building’s electrical systems, authorities said.
The Danville Utility Department initially shut off power for the entire block but has since deemed it safe to allow only part of the building to remain without electricity.
Efforts are underway to relocate those who were displaced, and the property manager is working to ensure that all of the building’s residents have what they need during the power outage.
At this time, the utility department is working with the property managers to ensure the power is restored safely.
