GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. – Dawson Warren is like many 7-year-old boys, full of energy and with the world at his fingertips, but in February, his family received crushing news: their son has cancer.
“Dawson was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma on February 6th,” said Jaime Warren, Dawson’s mother.
I sat down with the Warren family to talk about their journey so far. They said this all started almost a year ago.
“About a year ago, we noticed he had some enlarged lymph nodes right here on the back of his neck,” said Jonathan Warren, Dawson’s father. “They looked at them and they done some labs, everything comes back normal, they said they don’t think there was anything going on.”

But when Dawson’s lymph nodes started to swell again, his parents began to worry.
“[Jaime] decided to have the biopsy done,” Jonathan Warren said. “They went in, took a lymph node out.”
Soon after the biopsy, they received the news: Dawson has cancer.
“Of course, there is a million things that go through your mind in that moment,” Jonathan Warren said.
Dawson has already undergone one round of chemotherapy, and he’s staying positive. People from all over the county have been showering the family with love.
“It’s been a lot, and there are several benefits coming up, and it’s just been overwhelming with the community support,” Jaime Warren said.
For Dawson, he knows his plans once he’s kicked cancer’s butt.
“What’s it going to be like the day you ring that bell?” I asked.
“Disney!” Dawson exclaimed as everyone laughed.
“That’s what he’s looking forward to!” Jaime Warren added.
