The Roanoke Police Department has announced the arrest of a man in connection with a shooting that injured another individual inside a Southeast business.

Garod Sheldon Duckett, 59, from Waynesboro, has been charged with malicious wounding, according to the Roanoke Police Department. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m. Officers responded to the 700 block of Tazewell Avenue SE following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities determined that the suspect and the victim were involved in a verbal dispute in the parking lot before the suspect shot the victim inside the business. The investigation quickly identified Duckett as the suspect. The Roanoke Police Department, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, Harrisonburg Division, located Duckett in Waynesboro, Virginia, where he was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon.
