ROANOKE, Va – Students from across the Roanoke Valley are getting new opportunities to learn outside the classroom in the student-registered apprenticeship program.
Almost 400 high school sophomores and juniors met tonight with more than 20 different businesses from across the Roanoke Valley to learn more about student-registered apprenticeship opportunities.
Student apprentices are paid and work part-time towards earning credentials associated with each industry, while also earning high school credit.
“I think it’s worth it, I think it’s a way to get experience into the work field, like get an actual experience on a full-time job,” said Kenya Hernandez, one of the current apprentices.
Hernandez wants to go to Virginia Tech to study mechatronics and manufacturing engineering.
