Here’s what Lynchburg officials want you to know:
- Sign up for Lynchburg alerts: If you haven’t already, you can sign up here. It makes sure you’re notified of severe weather, closures in your area, and more.
- Keep your pipes safe: Severely cold weather can cause your pipes to freeze, which could in turn cause leaks and breaks. For more information on preventing this, visit here.
- GLTC operations: The Greater Lynchburg Transit Company is set to run its usual schedule during the icy weather, with the possibility of some detours. To stay up to date and to make sure you don’t miss your ride, check out their website here.
- Roads may need to be plowed: Depending on how heavy the precipitation is, the local roadways may need to be cleared. This can result in areas that are hard to pass, so only travel if necessary to stay safe. Also, be aware that abandoned vehicles on roadways will be towed.
- The cold can be dangerous: The city of Lynchburg has put together a list of health risks, and how to prevent them, on their website here.
- Keep your pets safe: Do not leave your pets outdoors in the cold! The snow, freezing temperatures, and ice can be just as dangerous as them as it is for you. Make sure they’re monitored when outdoors, and provide them with plenty of food, water, and a warm home.
