Shining Together: Night to Shine Provides Free Prom Wear for People of All Abilities

Guests can come pick out an outfit for free at Bonsack Baptist Church Saturday

ROANOKE, VA – Shopping for a prom dress is an experience many people never forget, but some people don’t get the opportunity to go to prom.

That’s why one group is working to make sure individuals of all abilities get the opportunity to shine.

Night to Shine is a global event, created by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

It’s dedicated to giving individuals with disabilities a night where they can shine and attend prom.

There’s free hair, nails, makeup, shoeshines, dinner, limo rides, dancing and more.

Night to Shine is Friday, February 7 - but it all kicks off Saturday with their free clothing event.

Roanoke Night to Shine planning committee member Patrice Smelser joined us in the studio to discuss the event.

Guests can come to Bonsack Baptist Church from 10-2 Saturday, and pick out a prom dress, tux and all of the accessories free of charge.

Seamstresses are also on hand to help with free alterations.

Night to Shine takes place February 7 at Fellowship Community Church in Salem.
