GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own after an officer was shot and killed in a shooting at a Food Lion Grocery Store Monday morning, according to WXII 12.
According to WXII 12 the shooting occurred Monday morning when the officer, who has been identified by the department as Michael Horan, responded to a call for help about an individual with a gun inside the Food Lion.

WXII 12 said Horan was hired by the department in 2017, Horan also served in the Coast Guard for 18 years as an active reservist.
“We want to honor the life and service of Officer Michael Horan,” acting Greensboro police Chief MJ Harris said.
“Together, we’re mourning Officer Horan, who was a husband, a father, a son, a friend and much more to his family,” Harris said. “He was an excellent officer. He had an outstanding reputation inside the department and in the community.”
WXII 12 said the Police Dept. said a suspect involved in the shooting is in custody and thanked law enforcement across the state for their support.
The Greensboro Police Department also said a memorial has been set up in his honor at the Greensboro Police Department.
