Covington’s Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign seeks community support to meet fundraising goal

Salvation Army hosts Red Kettle Campaign to help those in need

COVINGTON, Va. – With Christmas fast approaching, The Salvation Army in Covington is urging the community to help meet its annual fundraising goal for the Red Kettle Campaign. This year, the campaign is falling short of its $50,000 target, having raised only $27,440.03 so far. The funds collected are crucial for supporting programs that benefit individuals and families in Covington, Lexington, and Rockbridge counties throughout the year.

Major Gary Stewart of The Salvation Army emphasized the challenges faced by many in the community, noting that economic struggles and inflation have made it difficult for individuals living paycheck to paycheck. “For those living on the edges of poverty, these challenges can be devastating,” Stewart said. He expressed hope that the community would rally in the final days of the campaign to help reach the goal.

The Salvation Army bells will continue to ring outside stores until December 24, and the organization remains optimistic about the community’s generosity. “The money raised in our Red Kettle Campaign stays right here in Covington,” Stewart explained, highlighting the direct impact donations have on local families, such as providing meals and helping with utility bills.

Volunteers play a vital role in the success of the Red Kettle Campaign, and there is still time for individuals, families, groups, and businesses to sign up as volunteer bellringers. Those interested can visit www.RegisterToRing.com to select their preferred location, day, and time. For those unable to volunteer in person, donations can also be made to the virtual kettle from home.
