ROANOKE, Va. – Fighting hospital blues, that’s the goal of a more than $8,000 grant from the Toy Foundation that was presented to Carilion Children’s.
The grant will help launch “Fun on Wheels” which includes two mobile play carts stocked with creative, educational, and therapeutic activities for patients who are in their teens.
Staff at Carilion Children’s say oftentimes older patients feel left out.
“We get a whole lot of things that support our younger kids. Barbie dolls, teddy bears... and that doesn’t entertain a teenager quite as much.“
“Teenagers are going through just as much as our little kids when they have these health conditions or unexpected admissions to the hospital and so just acknowledging their presence and them as unique and individual people is really important.”
The new mobile cart will have a 3-D Printer, electric keyboard, mini microphone and recorder, mini drone, art supplies and more.
