VINTON, Va. – People came out for a mental health awareness cookout on Thursday. It was hosted by “Support Systems, Inc.,” a mental health provider in Vinton.
Not only was some delicious food served up, but it also included a craft show featuring artwork from clients.
“This is kind of a little glimpse into what someone struggling with mental illness does and what they can also do for the community,” Haley Ross, Support Systems Inc. Psychosocial Rehabilitation Director said.
Donations from the event will support an end-of-summer trip for clients.
“They have had lives that have not always been positive, but we’re here today to support them, celebrate them and show them that they are all somebody special,” Pamela Ellington-Armah, Support Systems Inc. Executive Administrative Director said.
