Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center hosts ‘Birdies Fore Birdies’ charity golf tournament

ROANOKE, Va. – It was a great day to be out on the golf course and help a good cause.

10 News Anchor John Appicello played in the ‘Birdies Fore Birdies’ golf tournament which supports the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center.

He even got to spend some time with one of their ambassadors, Tuskeegee, a red-tail hawk.

This charity golf tournament raises money for the nonprofit, and helps them continue to care for injured or orphaned wildlife.

“Every golfer that we get out here is helping us feed our animals, pay our staff, keep the lights on literally,” said Chester Leonard, executive director of SWVA Wildlife Center.

They are also working to repair some of their enclosures this summer, so any money raised Friday will help them make necessary repairs.

We’re told this was a record year for the tournament and they had a great turnout.
