Joe Cobb projected to win Roanoke’s mayoral race following recount

ROANOKE, Va. – Joe Cobb (D) is projected to win Roanoke’s mayoral race following a tense recount, defeating David Bowers (R) and Stephanie Moon Reynolds (I).

“This court hereby declares that Joseph L Cobb is the prevailing candidate in the recount and is elected as the mayor of the city of Roanoke.”

David Carson, Roanoke Judge

Cobb and Bowers were separated by only 29 votes after the recount concluded. After all the provisional ballots were counted back in November, Cobb had a lead of only 59 votes.

“The value that every vote counts, you know I said from election night onward that until every vote is counted and if there is a recount process that we go through that process and finalize it. Every step of the way is important. It reflects the diversity of our community and the diverse perspectives of the people who live here, so I celebrate that.”

“The first priority is transitioning in a lot of new council members, we will now have four new council members, and we don’t know the person that will fill my vacancy, we don’t know whether that’s someone who will comes with experience or be new to the council experience”
