Like the rest of Southwest and Central Virginia, Lynchburg is preparing to be hit by a wave of cold and icy weather. Luckily, officials are making sure that you’re prepared for the upcoming weather.

A Weather Authority Alert Day has been issued for December 29 due to the possibility of heavy thunderstorms and up to 60 MPH winds, which the NOAA classifies as damaging winds. It’s important to keep yourself safe, and make sure your outdoor belongings aren’t at risk of flying away!

Wind Chill values throughout Thursday morning will reach dangerously cold levels. Both the Highlands and New River Valley Zones will dip into the single digits or below zero by 8:00AM. Roanoke, Lynchburg and Southside will still feel quite chilly feeling like widespread teens and twenties. If you must go outside in these conditions, be sure to take the necessary precautions and bundle up.

Hot and humid conditions will make it feel more than 100° outside on Wednesday & Thursday afternoon.
