The U.S. Mint has unveiled designs for coins commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.

In a story published Nov. 12, 2025, about the last penny minted, The Associated Press reported that the last U.S. coin to be discontinued was the half-penny in 1857, according to Treasurer Brandon Beach.
