The animals were hoarded in a rural Southwest Virginia home in inhumane conditions with no water, according to the organization. Angels teamed up with a rescue group in Wise County to bring in six puppies and nine adult dogs and is now trying to nurse them back to health. ROANOKE, Va. – A baker’s dozen of dogs rescued from a South Korean meat farm is now safe and sound in Roanoke. Angels of Assisi is sheltering 13 dogs from the international rescue. In total, 170 dogs were saved from the meat farm. ROANOKE, Va – Thanks to help from a local shelter, a puppy left next to a dumpster in Roanoke earlier this month is making a speedy recovery. Last week 10 news introduced you to Gio, a four-month-old paralyzed lab puppy found abandoned near a dumpster on Peters Creek Road. After round the clock treatment at Angels of Assisi, Gio has now gotten most of the use in his back legs back and is walking around better than ever. ROANOKE, Va. Steve is adjusting to a new normal. For most of his life, he lived in horrible conditions with 28 other dogs, and limited to no human interaction. Because of that, this 4-year-old Collie/Border mix takes a while to get used to new people. Hes only recently, after about three months at Angels of Assisi, started letting the staff and volunteers pet me and take me for walks. The best environment for Steve would be a quiet house that has no children and a very limited amount of new people coming in and out.

ROANOKE, Va. A young boy is using lemonade to help raise money for a local animal shelter. Judah, 6, has created a website to sell lemonade and lemonade powder. A portion of the proceeds will go to Angels of Assisi in Roanoke. The plan was to have a lemonade stand in the spring, but the coronavirus pandemic happened so he created a website instead. Hes one of them, and they want to help, ONeil said.

They need a lot of rehabilitation, explained Angels of Assisi Executive Director Lisa ONeil. The South Korean meat farm the dogs were taken from is the latest one to be shut down by the Humane Society of the U.S. and Humane Society International. Angels of Assisi in Roanoke received 10 of the roughly 100 dogs saved. As a humane society rescue partner, this is the third time Angels of Assisi has received dogs from a South Korean meat farm and it may not be the last. When they go in to shut them down, they make sure theyre shut completely down.
