ROANOKE CO., Va. – 1 p.m. 7/4/2026 Update:
Roanoke County officials said as of noon on Saturday that the fire has been 100% contained. Remnants within the containment area will continue to burn and those in the area are advised that they will see smoke for the next several days unless it rains.
In total, approximately 100 acres burned while around 25 personnel from Roanoke County Fire & Rescue and the Department of Forestry were working this fire. The Department of Forestry will continue to investigate, but currently it isn’t believed that the cause of the fire was intentional.
No injuries or medical issues were connected with the fire. Roanoke County officials say this will be their final update unless there is a significant change.
9 p.m. Update:
Roanoke County officials said Friday night that approximately 100 acres have burned, but crews have contained 80% of the fire.
Officials say that people may see heavy smoke into Saturday. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it is not believed to be intentional; no structures are affected.
3 p.m. Update:
Roanoke County officials said that the fire has grown to approximately 10 acres in a heavily wooded area, producing heavy smoke. Fire and Rescue personnel from three stations are on the scene, including the Department of Forestry.
Officials say no structures are threatened and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue crews are responding to a brush fire to the Havens Wildlife Management area in the Fort Lewis area for a brush fire, according to officials.
Roanoke County officials say there are no structures in the area and no threat to the public at this time.
An estimated 1-2 acres have burned and it will likely grow in size. There is a lot of thick brush in the area, which will produce heavy smoke. Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown.
The Department of Forestry has been contacted, and crews are working to put in a containment line around the fire.
