Two men arrested following robbery and abduction investigation in Halifax County

HALIFAX CO., Va. Update:

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on an abduction and robbery incident that occurred Wednesday.

According to officials, the investigation has revealed that the victim had been shopping in Danville when the alleged suspects observed her and followed her to her residence on Hackenberry Road. Once she arrived home, the individuals forcibly took control of her vehicle and held her against her will.

The suspects then drove the victim back to Danville, taking her to a bank and demanding she withdraw money. During this time, the victim was able to discreetly alert the drive-thru teller that she needed help; the teller acted swiftly, alerting authorities.

The suspects then fled the area with the victim traveling toward South Boston. The vehicle was quickly located in a Food Lion Parking lot by Sgt. Trevor Richardson of the South Boston Police Department. Officers then successfully located and detained both subjects.

Officials said the victim was evaluated on scene and sustained no injuries. Both suspects were taken to the Blu Ridgeh Regional Jail and are being held without bond.

The following suspects have been arrested and charged with the following:

• Jalyn Hamlin, 25, of Clemmons, NC

Charges: Abduction, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Robbery, Grand Larceny

• Eric Staton, 56, of Danville, VA

Charges: Abduction, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Robbery, Grand Larceny, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office announced that it had arrested suspects after an attempted carjacking incident Wednesday.

According to officials, the Halifax County E-911 received a call reporting an incident on Hackenberry Road at 4:00 p.m. The victim stated that the suspects observed her pulling into her driveway and proceeded to forcibly hijack her vehicle while she was still inside.

The suspects then traveled toward Danville before returning to South Boston via Highway 58. Upon receiving the report, deputies were dispatched, and the vehicle was located in the Riverdale area. The suspects were taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered.

The victim was evaluated on scene by Halifax County Rescue and sustained no injuries. Officials say this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
