The life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter was honored on Thursday with an official state funeral at Washington National Cathedral. This will be followed by a second private service and burial in Georgia, where he spent the majority of his life and passed away on Dec. 29 at the age of 100.
Thursday’s events will mark the end of six days of ceremonial events that started in Plains, Georgia and continued in Atlanta and Washington. President Joe Biden is expected to deliver a eulogy and several prominent public figures and many of Carter’s successors, including President-elect Donald Trump, will be in attendance.
The 39th president of the United States will be remembered for his fervor for serving those around him, unwavering commitment to his religious faith and dedication to humanitarian work.
