Dry Friday, not so much though this weekend

Prepare for a mix of rain, snow, and varied temperatures

Clipper system bringing flurries and snow

ROANOKE, Va. – There’s a small clipper system heading our way from the north and west, and it’s bringing the possibility of flurries and light snow showers to parts of the mountains this evening. However, most of this wintry action seems to be targeting areas north of us, like Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. For tonight, expect the skies to be mostly clear to partly cloudy, although some areas in the mountains may wake up to a few lingering clouds Friday morning.

Weekend weather changes

Friday will be relatively mild under mostly sunny skies. As we head into Friday night, the clouds will thicken, and there might be a few pockets of wintry mix and/or rain showers late. And that chance for some snow, sleet, and freezing rain may linger into portions of the area into early Saturday. However, it will not take long for most of this to transition over to just plain rain showers. It will not rain the entire day Saturday, but it will be wise to have the umbrella handy. And by Saturday night, we should be dry for a bit.

Second storm system and future weather events

Sunday might keep us on our toes with a second storm system. It will likely start with rain before switching to snow. While it’s too early to speculate on snowfall totals, some accumulations (an inch or two possible in some areas) are possible. Stay tuned for updates, as it’s a quick moving system that should exit by Sunday night.

Looking ahead to next week, another significant front *might* affect us late Thursday into Friday. This one could bring more widespread snow and maybe even some ice. As always, it’s important to stay connected with 10 News for the latest developments.

Upcoming week’s weather

The coldest air of the season (and maybe even since Dec. 2022!) is forecast to move in early next week. Temperatures Monday through Wednesday will only reach the teens and twenties! But we do look dry these three days under partly to mostly sunny skies.
