Two people arrested in connection with fatal Martinsville shooting

The shooting happened on Hairston Street in May

MARTINSVILLE, Va.June 13, UPDATE:

Two people have now been arrested in connection with the May 12 murder of Marcie Hunt, Martinsville Police Department said.

Authorities said a tip led them to a home in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Road, where De’Corrius Thompson was arrested on June 13. He was charged with the following:

  • first-degree murder
  • malicious wounding
  • use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Thompson also faces an outstanding charge of felony probation violation out of Henry County, as well as multiple charges from the Virginia State Police unrelated to the murder of Hunt:

  • malicious wounding
  • use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • use of firearm from a vehicle
  • maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle

Prior to Thompson’s arrest, MPD said they arrested Kaniya Finney on May 27. She was charged with the following:

  • accessory to first-degree murder
  • accessory to malicious wounding

Update:

The Martinsville Police Department announced that it has issued warrants for two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the City Tuesday night.

According to officials, MPD detectives processed the scene, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. Through the investigation, detectives identified two suspects.

Warrants have been issued for De’Corrius Thompson of Martinsville and Kaniya Finney of Martinsville.

Thompson has been charged with first-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Finney has been charged with accessory to first-degree murder and accessory to malicious wounding

A Martinsville woman was killed in a shooting late Tuesday night, according to the Martinsville Police Department.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Hairston Street around 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found two people who had been shot.

Marcie Hunt, 53, was taken to SOVAH Martinsville Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. A man was also taken to the hospital and remains in serious condition, police said.

Investigators are currently processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Police say they are investigating the shooting as a homicide. So far, authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting or information about a possible suspect.
