Woman arrested, charged in connection with fatal stabbing in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville Police have charged and arrested a woman in connection with a fatal stabbing from September.

On Sept. 22, 2024, Martinsville police officers responded to an apartment in the 1000 block of Mountain Road, where they discovered James Carmichael, 69, suffering from a knife wound to the chest. Despite efforts to save him, Carmichael lost consciousness and died at the scene, authorities said.

Investigators processed the scene, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses, leading to first-degree murder charges against Sherri McGregor, a 56-year-old woman from Jacksonville, North Carolina.

McGregor was arrested on Jan. 16, in Jacksonville by agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, and the Martinsville Police Department. She is being held without bond pending extradition.
